SUMMARY:Misfit and Maverick short films (18) + filmmaker Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Northants is a county of Rebels and Revolutionaries\, Misfits and Mavericks\, Creatives and Changemakers – so here’s a selection of shorts from our 2026 submissions which we thought fitted under the Misfits or Mavericks themes. Here at NFF we think there’s lots of positivity around the idea of being a misfit. Misfits and Mavericks think differently\, take up space differently\, but also sometimes we all have that desire to just fit in…. \nFilms start promptly at 8.15pm – no trailers. Doors open 20 minutes before the films start. \nNorthampton Filmhouse has step free access to the screening room but only 1 wheelchair space and only 1 row of chairs without using steps. DESCRIPTION:Following sold out Women in Film screenings from 2025\, they’re back for 2026! There is some strong language (but within the 12A certificate guidelines)\, brief use of racist terms (in an otherwise empowering film)\, and discussion of death\, sex and sexuality. There’s also music\, comedy\, dance and drama. \nWe’ve got 2 screenings in one event for you – a PG screening 3pm-4pm then a short interval followed by a 20-minute 12A screening from about 3.15pm. For those that just want to see the PG films\, there will be entertainment for you in other rooms in the Abbey – so bring the family and make a creative afternoon of it! All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. \nDoors 2.30pm with screening starting promptly at 3pm (film order may change): \nSI Superficial Intelligence \nNavigating The Net \nThe Missing Piece \nLost in the Backrooms \nGreat Fire of Northampton \nBalls. \nBone Collector \nThen a short break before the 12A films: \nBurnout \nPeaches \nSmall I’s \nDancing To Art \nThese films have some mild bad language and some injury detail\, and contain themes like burnout\, apocalypse and rebellion (!) which you might feel is unsuitable for your child who is under 12. Any age child under 12 can watch these films as long as they are accompanied by an adult. \nAfter watching the films\, elsewhere in the Abbey you can take part in some creative activities and/or view our Rebels and Revolutionaries art exhibition. \nChildren are 16yrs and Under. You don’t need to be a family to use the family ticket – any 2 adults (16yrs+) and 2 children (under 16yrs) can be a family for the day! \nFree parking is a few hundred metres from the venue. SUMMARY:NFF 2025: 'Algorithm Party' spoken word feature doc (18)
DESCRIPTION:This is a screening in The Creative Place\, the smallest arts centre in the world. It is based on Northampton Market Square and only has 10 seats. Therefore we may run additional screenings of this film on this day. \nWe are a very small space so if you have a large wheelchair or require space for mobility aids etc. please get in touch before booking so we can ensure we can make your visit a pleasurable one! And if we’re too full\, we can run another screening to accommodate demand. \n\n\n\n\nAlgorithm Party\n\nDocumentary \n\nView all films tagged “Documentary”\n\nFeature length film \n\nView all films tagged “Feature length film”\n\n\n\nAlgorithm Party chronicles the spoken-word performances of Liverpool’s Roy. \nDirector Biography -Roy Boulter \nRoy is an acclaimed feature film producer and TV scriptwriter. Alongside Sol Papadopoulos\, he founded Liverpool based production company Hurricane Films in 2000. His credits as a producer include: \nOf Time & The City\, directed by Terence Davies. Premiering at Cannes\, prizes included New York Film Critics Circles Best Documentary\, and the film featured in Times ten films of the year. \n‘Sunset Song directed by Terence Davies. Shot in New Zealand\, Scotland and Luxembourg\, the film premiered at TIFF. Cast included Agyness Deyn and Peter Mullan. \nA Quiet Passion directed by Terence Davies. Starring Cynthia Nixon\, Jennifer Ehle and Keith Carradine\, the film premiered at Berlinale. An absolute\, drop dead masterwork( New Yorker Magazine). \nA Prayer Before Dawn shot in Thailand – directed by Jean Stephane Sauvaire\, starring Joe Cole. Premiered at Cannes. \nSometimes Always Never\, written by Frank Cotterell Boyce\, directed by Carl Hunter. Starring Bill Nighy\, Sam Riley\, Jenny Agutter and Alice Lowe. Premiered at the London FF. \nThe Last Bus\, shot in Scotland\, directed by Gillies McKinnon\, starring Tim Spall was released in Summer 2022. \nThe company were named by Creative England and The Telegraph as one of the top ten most influential creative companies and Future leaders and also named as one of three non-London production companies to make the Screen Dailys Brit 50. \nAlgorithm Party is Roy Boulter’s directorial debut. \nDirector Statement \nAs an admirer of the spoken word performer ‘Roy’ (PJ Smith)\, Ive always felt that his visceral tales of extraordinary working class Liverpool life\, were not just visual but cinematic. Despite the seemingly parochial\, down-at-heel settings\, there is an abstract beauty to it all\, which put me in mind of the great Liverpool director Terence Davies early work whom I worked with on three of his films\, which I produced. Despite Terence and PJ being very different\, they both depict the world with a bleak rawness while retaining an inherent humour. \nRoy / PJ is a former substance abuser turned artist\, campaigner\, mentor and all-round force for good. He performs extensively and has been approached by leading television companies about adapting his work for TV dramas. \nWhile deciding on how best to capture Roys performance of his debut publication Algorithm Party\, I kept thinking about another performance piece\, Spalding Greys classic ‘Swimming to Cambodia’. Using that as a template\, I found a way to depict Roys unique take on working class life his compelling stories featuring vivid\, authentic characters. The film is shot mostly on location in the iconic St Georges Hall concert room in Liverpool – where Dickens and other notable writers performed\, and where we shot scenes for Terence Davies multi-award-winning feature documentary ‘Of Time And The City’. \nAlgorithm Party is an authentic\, forthright glimpse into working class life\, straight to camera with a blunt honesty while retaining its humour and compassion. \nRoy Boulter\, director. April 2024.

SUMMARY:NFF 2025: 'All This Time' feature film with filmmaker Q&A (15)
DESCRIPTION:Trapped with a mysterious vampire in an endless time loop\, Grace must unlock the secrets of the house\, the previous nights party\, and her own past\, to find any hope of escaping and returning to her normal life and young child. \nWinner – Best Director Feature Film – HorrOrigins Film Festival \nWinner – Best Production Design Feature Film – HorrOrigins Film Festival \nWinner – Dead Northern Award – Dead Northern Film Festival \nDirector Biography -Rob Worsey \nRob Worsey is a Director born and bred in the North of England. Along side his day job as a camera operator for corporate and commercial work\, he spends time working in the Independent Film Scene\, focusing on writing and directing. \nHis debut feature film Among the Living (2022) won the best feature film award at Crystal Palace International Film Festival\, saw a brief theatrical opening in the US\, and reached streaming internationally including Sky Store\, Prime\, and Tubi. \nAll This Time (2025) is Rob’s second feature film\, and is built upon everything he and the team learnt on their first film. It is a larger budget\, with more ambitious scope\, and an engaging mind bending narrative. \nDirector Statement \nI am incredibly excited about this film\, as I believe we’ve managed to create something new\, exciting\, and emotional. It is inspired by films such as The Others (2001)\, A Ghost Story (2017)\, Groundhog Day (1993)\, and Dracula (2020). It blends the time bending thriller elements together with a gothic atmosphere and emotional core into a twisting film that keeps the audience guessing throughout\, and once revealed\, makes them want to watch it all again to see what clues they missed. I love the type of films that have you clutching at clues and story strands\, trying to piece the narrative together\, and then completely pull the rug out form under you in the last act. This is what we have tried to make\, and from early feedback\, it feels like we might have pulled it off.

SUMMARY:NFF 2025: 'She Walks A Line' documentary feature with Director Q&A (15)
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be joined by the Director Tim Lovell afterwards for a Q&A so have your questions ready! \n\n\n\n\nShe Walks A Line\nDocumentary \n\nView all films tagged “Documentary”\n\nFeature length film \n\nView all films tagged “Feature length film”\n\n\n\nShe Walks a Line is a gripping documentary that reveals the harrowing journey of thousands of young Nepali women and girls who are coerced across the border into India each year. \nOnce across the notoriously porous 1\,000-mile frontier\, most are sold into the sex industry\, forced into domestic servitude or subjected to organ and skin harvesting. This border has become one of the world’s most prolific human trafficking routes. \nAmidst international indifference\, one Nepali woman\, Shanta Sapkota\, has taken a courageous stand to combat this humanitarian crisis. Driven by heartbreak and a fierce determination\, she leads a team of female anti-human trafficking operatives at the Mahendranagar crossing\, a critical checkpoint where the fate of many young lives hangs in the balance. \nThis exclusively nonwhite\, female-led documentary takes the audience deep into the heart of this mission. Through the eyes of rescuers\, victims\, and traffickers\, we witness the raw emotions\, heart-wrenching struggles\, and moments of triumph that define this battle against human trafficking. \nAt its core\, She Walks a Line is a story of empowermentof women fighting for justice\, of traffickers manipulating the vulnerable\, and of a divine calling that has inspired one woman to stand her ground in the face of adversity. This film not only tells a story; it ignites a movement. \nDirector Biography -TIMOTHY STUART LOVELL \nTimothy Lovell is a highly accomplished professional in the film and television industry\, with a career spanning over three decades. A multi-award-winning editor\, he has contributed his expertise to critically acclaimed international feature documentaries\, including Mugabe and the White African\, Hawking\, and Outbreak. In recent years\, Timothy has expanded his skill set to encompass self-shooting and directing\, further enriching his ability to craft compelling narratives. \nPassionate about ethical filmmaking\, Timothy Lovell is committed to creating and amplifying stories that highlight underrepresented voices. His recent projects include the critically acclaimed anti-human trafficking documentary You Are Beautiful and the award-winning Operation Goldilocks. \nThrough his work\, Timothy continues to champion impactful storytelling\, using film as a powerful medium to address vital social issues and inspire change. \nAccolades / Credits include: \nAwarded Membership \nThe Guild of British Film and Television Editors\, GBFE \nWinner of the following International Awards: \nBAFTA\, EMMY\, GRIERSON\, SCRIPPS HOWARD\, ONE WORLD MEDIA \nNominated for the Royal Television Society Award \nOutbreak: The truth about Ebola \nBBC Television / PBS Television \nWinner of the Royal Television Society Award \nNominated for BAFTA \nThe Hunt Natural History Documentary Series \nBBC Television & international broadcast \nWinner of the Royal Television Society Award \nBest Natural History Film of 2014 \nAfricas Giant Killers \nBBC Television and international broadcast \nOFFICIAL SELECTION FOR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVALS \nSXSW\, EDINBURGH AND CAMBRIDGE \nINTERNATIONAL CINEMA RELEASE & international broadcast \nHAWKING Feature documentary \nWinner of the following International Awards: \nBIFA\, SILVERDOCKS\, AMNESTY\, HAMPTONS\, GRIERSON \nShortlisted for ACADEMY AWARDS (Oscar)\, \nNominated for BAFTA \nINTERNATIONAL CINEMA RELEASE & international broadcast \nMugabe & the White African Feature documentary \nDirector Statement \nTo gather the footage for this film\, I was required to embed myself with the Peace Rehabilitation Center (PRC) border operatives in Southwest Nepal. My ambition was to document their courageous fight against prolific human trafficking endeavors along that notoriously porous border. I wanted to unpack on camera the complexities of human trafficking\, the lies\, mysteries\, triumphs\, and heartache the team faces every day. \nPRC’s team in Nepal has enough challenges without all the inconvenience of a filmmaker documenting their every move. However\, they accommodated my needs with grace and patience. In bringing this story to the screen\, I firmly believe they withheld nothing from me about their mode of operation. This transparency is to be applauded. \nDuring the process of filming\, I was greatly impacted by the very real risks these female operatives take every single day to find and recover children being cruelly sold for sex. They exhibit a profound compassion for these children and an unquenchable passion to do everything in their power to intercept them before they are lost over the border. \nI would like to thank the Peace Rehabilitation Center (PRC) team in Nepal for allowing me to film with them and produce this intimate insight into their exhausting\, dangerous\, and hugely inspiring work.
