DESCRIPTION:An artwork by Luke Jerram\, with surround sound audio by Dan Jones \nHazel and Thoroughsale Woods\nCorby\nNorthamptonshire\nNN17 1QG \n19 – 21 September 2025 \nFermynwoods Contemporary Art is thrilled to announce the upcoming presentation of Tipping Point\, a powerful new work by internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram. \nShowcased in the largest ancient urban woodland in the UK\, at the heart of Corby town centre\, Northamptonshire this September\, Tipping Point uses immersive light\, smoke\, and sound to simulate the drama of a forest fire. \nThe installation features a bespoke soundtrack created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones\, which includes the sounds of burning trees\, whirring chainsaws\, and fleeing animals\, alongside ambient\, melancholic music and moving global testimonies from individuals who have experienced wildfires. \nThe work will be unveiled from 8pm to 9:30pm on the evenings of 19\, 20 and 21 September. \nAs part of the project\, visitors will have the opportunity to find information about local environmental action\, including North Northants Council’s work on increasing tree canopy cover and habitat preservation. \nFermynwoods Director\, James Steventon added\, “As climate fires rage around the world\, we are excited to bring this powerful artwork to the county\, thinking globally as we act locally to change the perception of Corby from a toxic town of environmental harm to an environmental leader.”

SUMMARY:350th anniversary of the Great Fire of Northampton - Finale Event
DESCRIPTION:The 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of Northampton will be marked with a special event in Market Square to round off a week-long series of free activities across the town.The finale of a busy events programme will be held on Saturday\, 20 September\, with an activity day in Market Square from 11am to 7.30pm\, to be followed by a service at All Saints’ Church at 7.30pm featuring guests including Rev Richard Coles.A big screen will show a specially commissioned animation by Northampton Film Festival and The Creative Place. The film is the result of a project involving hundreds of local people answering the question\, if Northampton burnt down again tomorrow\, what would people save\, what would people rebuild first and what would make it feel like our Northampton again?Local children have contributed drawings to the animation\, local animators have shared their skills and market-goers have shared their thoughts through workshops\, vox pops and on the ideas wall at The Creative Place. The resulting film will premiere at 1.30pm.Throughout the day there will be an extended version of The Creative Place’s Makers Market featuring artisan producers and creatives\, a bar by V&B\, a performance from the Bach choir and displays from Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue plus history tours and a chance to complete Northampton Town Council’s Great Fire Trail app.Live music and DJ sets will be provided from the likes of Inspiration FM\, United African Association\, CLICK Arts Foundation\, Saphron and The Performing Room.West Northamptonshire Council will also be sharing its vision for the redevelopment of Northampton town centre\, echoing the efforts to rebuild the town in the wake of the blaze in 1675.As part of the anniversary\, a spectacular light show will be beamed onto All Saints’ Church every night from Monday\, 15 September to Saturday\, 20 September\, while Fiori Musicali will perform a spine-tingling interpretation of Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks at the church at 7pm on Thursday\, 18 September.\n \nNorthants Makers Market. DESCRIPTION:The Week of Words – dedicated to celebrating how words shape art\, stories\, community and connection – is set to launch at The Creative Place on Northampton Market Square and everyone is invited to participate. \nBeginning on National Writing Day\, Thursday 19th June\, The Creative Place will be issuing free creative writing packs\, with prompts inspired by the Great Fire of Northampton\, to get people writing. Designed originally for young people\, they are now available to all and anyone can request a digital pack or collect a physical one. Once submitted\, finished pieces may be included in Northampton Film Festival’s animated film about the Great Fire of Northampton\, which will be screened on Northampton Market Square in September. \nThe Creative Place (TCP)\, considered one of the world’s smallest arts centres\, will host a number of other events during the Week of Words\, including: \nFriday 20th June: \nA gathering of an array of local authors for a meet and greet with the public\, including the Northants Authors collective 10am-12pm and author of the Grumpy Rosetta children’s books Juliet Timpson 1pm-5pm. \nSaturday 21st June: \n1) A variety of free sessions on Reading\, Writing and Performance designed for young people\, including a session 1pm-2pm with poet\, writer\, speaker and workshop facilitator Abbi Jinks. Abbi believes we all have a story\, we all have a voice and we all have a truth. And when we can really feel safe to share that and be seen and heard\, then the magic can really begin! Reading activities will take place 10am – 12pm\, then a creative writing session will be run by TCP volunteer and writer Ellen Page 12pm-1pm. \n2) A special opportunity 3pm-5pm to become one of 10\,000 voices recording on camera the final words of James Baldwin from his debate with William Buckley at the Cambridge Union in 1965 on race and violence\, with Northamptonshire social enterprise Undiscovered Country. Script will be provided. \nTuesday 24th June: \nA day of Industry talks from local people working in word-related industries\, from Film Scripts to Publishing and the Writing East Midlands development agency. \nThis includes sessions with: \n\nmulti award-winning writer\, filmmaker and storyteller Tony Klinger at 2pm\, whose film career has included working as an Assistant Director on the classic British TV series ‘The Avengers’ and Director of ‘The Kids Are Alright’ a documentary about British rock band The Who. His books include the novels ‘The Butterfly Boy’\, ‘Under God’s Table’ and his most recent publication ‘Who Knows\, the Making of a Rock Movie’.\nSophie Campbell of Writing East Midlands (WEM) and Beyond The Spectrum at 4pm. WEM is the literature development agency for the region and Beyond the Spectrum is a creative writing programme by and for autistic writers. SUMMARY:Week of Words - Local Author Day
DESCRIPTION:The Week of Words – dedicated to celebrating how words shape art\, stories\, community and connection – is set to launch at The Creative Place on Northampton Market Square and everyone is invited to participate. \nBeginning on National Writing Day\, Thursday 19th June\, The Creative Place will be issuing free creative writing packs\, with prompts inspired by the Great Fire of Northampton\, to get people writing. Designed originally for young people\, they are now available to all and anyone can request a digital pack or collect a physical one. Once submitted\, finished pieces may be included in Northampton Film Festival’s animated film about the Great Fire of Northampton\, which will be screened on Northampton Market Square in September. \nThe Creative Place (TCP)\, considered one of the world’s smallest arts centres\, will host a number of other events during the Week of Words\, including: \nFriday 20th June: \nA gathering of an array of local authors for a meet and greet with the public\, including the Northants Authors collective 10am-12pm and author of the Grumpy Rosetta children’s books Juliet Timpson 1pm-5pm. \nSaturday 21st June: \n1) A variety of free sessions on Reading\, Writing and Performance designed for young people\, including a session 1pm-2pm with poet\, writer\, speaker and workshop facilitator Abbi Jinks. Abbi believes we all have a story\, we all have a voice and we all have a truth. And when we can really feel safe to share that and be seen and heard\, then the magic can really begin! Reading activities will take place 10am – 12pm\, then a creative writing session will be run by TCP volunteer and writer Ellen Page 12pm-1pm. \n2) A special opportunity 3pm-5pm to become one of 10\,000 voices recording on camera the final words of James Baldwin from his debate with William Buckley at the Cambridge Union in 1965 on race and violence\, with Northamptonshire social enterprise Undiscovered Country. Script will be provided. \nTuesday 24th June: \nA day of Industry talks from local people working in word-related industries\, from Film Scripts to Publishing and the Writing East Midlands development agency. \nThis includes sessions with: \n\nmulti award-winning writer\, filmmaker and storyteller Tony Klinger at 2pm\, whose film career has included working as an Assistant Director on the classic British TV series ‘The Avengers’ and Director of ‘The Kids Are Alright’ a documentary about British rock band The Who. His books include the novels ‘The Butterfly Boy’\, ‘Under God’s Table’ and his most recent publication ‘Who Knows\, the Making of a Rock Movie’.\nSophie Campbell of Writing East Midlands (WEM) and Beyond The Spectrum at 4pm. WEM is the literature development agency for the region and Beyond the Spectrum is a creative writing programme by and for autistic writers.
