DESCRIPTION:Our Medieval Round Church has been welcoming visitors since 1100 AD and in 2024 she is set to fling open her doors again. \nOn Saturday afternoons from 2pm-4pm from May to September\, visitors can learn all about this fascinating church and the historic treasures she contains. \nIf only these walls could talk\, I wonder what they would say? EVEN BY THE STANDARDS OF THAT DECADE\, DERRY WAS NOT THE ROCK AND ROLL CAPITAL OF ANYWHERE AND WITH NO LIVE BANDS WORTH WATCHING\, THEY LEARNED THEIR TRADE BY LISTENING TO MAIL ORDER RECORDS\, READING ONE OF THE FEW COPIES OF NME THAT MADE IT TO DERRY BUT MOST OF ALL FROM LISTENING TO JOHN PEEL’S SHOW ON BBC RADIO ONE.\nPRACTICING IN THEIR BEDROOMS EVENTUALLY LED TO THE BAND RECORDING ‘TEENAGE KICKS’ IN 1978 ON TERRI HOOLEY’S GOOD VIBRATIONS LABEL IN BELFAST. A COPY WAS SENT TO THE LEGENDARY DJ JOHN PEEL AND HE LIKED THE TRACK SO MUCH HE PLAYED IT TWICE IN A ROW ON HIS RADIO SHOW!

DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibition-The Gallery \nRunning for the month of September as part of the hugely successful Northants and Rutland Open Studios event\, 78 Derngate is pleased to present Nine at 78 – an eclectic exhibition of work from nine prominent Northamptonshire artists encompassing work in an array of styles and mediums. From paint\, mixed media and collage\, to glass\, jewellery\, ceramics\, woodwork and textiles; there is something for everyone to appreciate and all the work is for sale. \nTaking part are: Katy Dynes (painting and illustration)\, Nadege Honey (handcrafted jewellery)\, Sarah Luke (glass)\,Claire Mycock (painting and mixed media)\, Joy Norman (textiles and paper)\,Colin Proctor (painting)\, Mark Puryer (wood)\, Emma Saul (painting and ceramics)and Katrina Solano (painting). These artists and makers’ creations will fill all our galleries and there will be pieces to view in the gardens\, too!
