SUMMARY:THE SMYTHS - MEAT IS MURDER at 40 + Hits & More + Guests
DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to announce The Smyths are returning to The Roadmender Northampton on Sat 8thNovember 2025 following their packed out at the venue in 2024. \n2025 sees the 40th anniversary of The Smiths a legendary second album Meat is Murder. Arguably the bands most controversial release (the band considered it as a protest album)\, not only did it do more than anything in pop culture to encourage a generation to become vegetarians\, it was the first album to introduce Morrisseys criticism of the Royal Family. Coming a year on from the bands debut\, Meat Is Murder showed the band moving its musical might to a muscular new sound (whilst still maintaining its ability to produce heart-breaking beautiful songs). \nThe Smyths presents Meat is Murder a show that will celebrate the album alongside a full collection of classic hits and more from The Smiths.

SUMMARY:A Day to Remember
DESCRIPTION:On a single day in May 1915\, nearly 11\,000 British and Indian soldiers were wounded or killed during the ill-fated Battle of Aubers Ridge. Among them were hundreds of young men from Northamptonshire\, many of whom never made it more than a few metres from their trenches. \nPerformance poetToby Thompsonpresents a powerful reflection on the lives lost during this devastating chapter of the First World War. Through vivid and evocative poetry\, the piece delves into not only the brutality of the battle but also the youthful hope of the summer of 1914\, and how modern generations continue to connect with the legacy of the Great War. \nFeaturing a rich soundscape byBuster Grey-Jung\, and direction by award-winning theatre maker and Artistic DirectorJesse Jones\,A Day To Rememberbrings history into sharp focus through the voices of the present. \nOriginally commissioned by Royal & Derngate in 2015 as part of a wider project exploring the impact of the First World War on local communities.

SUMMARY:From the Collection: Women Artists
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of artworks from NMAG’s collection celebrates the variety of genres\, methods and media used by women artists\, from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. Northampton Museum & Art Gallery Saturday 11 November – Sunday 12 April 2026 Throughout history\, both men and women have created art\, yet only a select few have been remembered within Western art history. Art by men was historically valued more highly than art by women\, reflecting broader beliefs that only men could possess artistic or creative genius. Certain genres and mediums were also considered more prestigious\, while work made in the domestic sphere was dismissed as craft or decoration rather than recognised as fine art. Women were barred from studying nude figures a crucial part of classical art training until the late 1800s. Second-wave feminism in the twentieth century\, and wider social changes in the twenty-first\, have challenged these hierarchies. Today\, women are at the forefront of artistic production\, with artists such as Tracey Emin\, Maggi Hambling\, Rachel Whiteread and Jasleen Kaur recognised as leading voices in contemporary art.
