DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE! \nJoin us to celebrate Diwali\, with cultural food and drink\, community stalls\, live stage entertainment\, henna painting\, arts and crafts\, saree dressing and the spectacular Diwali lantern procession and magical parade\, featuring breathtaking giant puppets including Harminder the elephant. \nLive Stage Programme and Parade Route Map coming soon! \nStalls open at 10am | Parade starts at 6pm \nThe event is organised by the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation Northampton\, and supported by Northampton Town Council\, West Northamptonshire Council\, Northampton Town Centre BID\, Route Canal Arts and Rost Productions Ltd\, Inspiration FM and the University of Northampton. \nFollow Northampton Town Council on social media for all the latest event updates. \n\n\n\nCelebrate the magical 24th Annual Diwali Festival of Lights in Northampton \nNorthampton’s Diwali Festival of Lights is set to take place on Saturday 26th October in the town centre\, with stalls and entertainment from 10am\, followed by a magical light parade at dusk. \nThis annual community festival\, organised by Northampton Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation and supported by Northampton Town Council\, Northampton Town Centre BID and West Northamptonshire Council\, is now in its 24th year. \nVisitors can enjoy cultural activities such as henna painting and saree dressing\, while browsing various community stalls and enjoying Indian food and drink on the newly opened Market Square. \nLive stage entertainment is set to take place on the Market Square from 1pm\, then at 6pm\, the light parade will begin from The Ridings and follow a route along St Giles’ Terrace\, onto St Giles’ St\, down George Row\, around All Saints’ Church to Mercers Row before and returning to the Market Square to kick start celebrations. \nLocal school children and community groups will join large-scale puppets including Harminder the elephant and Shanti the giant bird\, to form the twinkling parade of Hindu Deities\, operated by outdoor arts specialists Route Canal Arts and Rost Productions Ltd. \nNeelam Aggarwal-Singh\, Chair of the Northampton IHWO said: “The winter festival of Diwali lights gets bigger and better every year and it’s wonderful to see so many partners coming together to make it such a great experience for everyone. \n“I am looking forward to welcoming visitors to this special event back on the Market Square and joining the popular Diwali lights parade\, which will light up the streets of Northampton town centre. DESCRIPTION:Based on the the 1980’s big screen hit\, Footloose The Musical bursts on to the Derngate stage this Autumn\, performed by our local award-winning group Northampton Musical Theatre Company. \nRen McCormack a teenage city boy is forced to move to Bomont – a small rural town in America where he learns rock ‘n’ roll and dancing have both been banned by the local preacher. Ren then decides to try and change this and works to get the whole town up on its feet! \nThis full-of-energy musical\, packed with popular songs including Holding Out For A Hero and Let’s Hear It For The Boy along with the title track Footloose\, will get you wanting to be up on your feet dancing.
