SUMMARY:From the Collection: Drawings
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of drawings from the Northampton Museums & Art Gallery collection. \nThis exhibition explores drawing as a fundamental artistic language\, presenting preparatory sketches and finished works that reveal how ideas take shape on paper. Through the delicate studies of Henry Moore\, the atmospheric sketches of Walter Sickert\, the imaginative designs of Sir Edward Burne Jones\, and the expressive drawings of Clare Abbatt\, amongst others\, visitors are invited to consider drawing not merely as a preliminary step but as an art form in its own right. The works on display highlight how artists across different periods and practices use line\, tone\, and observation to experiment\, problem solve\, and refine their vision. Together\, they celebrate drawing’s enduring role as a tool for exploration\, invention\, and creative thinking.

SUMMARY:Rose Finn Kelcey: House Rules
DESCRIPTION:Arts Collective launches its new gallery programme with an exhibition revisiting the pioneering work of British conceptual artist Rose Finn-Kelcey\, curated by Emer Grant. This marks the first presentation of the artist’s work in her hometown of Northampton. \nFeaturing photographic\, installation and video works loaned from national collections and archives\, the exhibition recontextualises Finn-Kelcey’s groundbreaking practice through architectural space and coded forms. It considers how formal systems and power structures shape experience through architecture\, language\, ritual and atmosphere. \nExhibited publicly for the first time since its original installation\, Bar Doors (1991) captures architectural thresholds\, foregrounding moments of passage between spaces. The photographic documentation of Finn-Kelcey’s site-specific installation—seven saloon-style doors installed in a Houston city park—invites viewers to reconsider familiar architectural features as markers of access and permission. \nThe exhibition also explores Finn-Kelcey’s fascination with spirituality and its connections to the commercial and domestic structures of contemporary life\, featuring works such as It Pays to Pray (1990)\, God Kennel – A Tabernacle (1992) and Jolly God (1997). Her iconic flag works are also presented\, including documentation of Power for the People (1972)\, in which a collective political declaration was placed directly onto the monumental architecture of Battersea Power Station while it remained operational. \nThroughout the exhibition\, architecture\, movement and attention shape how the works are encountered. Finn-Kelcey’s work offers a lens through which to experience 24 Guildhall Road as an active structure—shaped by play\, language and collective imagination. \n\n\n\n\nImage Credit: Rose Finn-Kelcey Bar Doors (Photograph of installation) 1991 \nWood\, Houston International Festival\, Buffalo Bayou Park\, Houston\, Texas. SUMMARY:Larry Dean & Finlay Christie: Work In Progress
DESCRIPTION:Live stand up comedy at The Lamplighter Northampton. As part of the Northampton Comedy Festival 2026 in association with Northampton BID. \nWork in progress shows from Larry Dean and Finlay Christie \nDoors 7pm – Show 8pm \n \nLarry Dean: Hellbent\nRecently married\, emotionally feral. The gallus Glaswegian goon returns with a riotous show about refusing to grow up. As seen on SNL\, Live at the Apollo\, QI and The Royal Variety Performance. ***** (Telegraph). \n \nFinlay Christie: Champagne Casanova\nFinlay misguidedly believes that his muggers fancied him\, that being a f*ckboy is cool and that Kim Jong Un would love him. Funny\, self-aware and internet-brained\, this is an hour about the myths constructed by incels\, billionaires and even human people\, that mean we don’t have to admit we’re ordinary\, rejected or wrong. There’s also a strong section on air fryers. As seen on social media (1M+ followers)\, Live at the Apollo\, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. ‘The voice of a generation’ **** (Chortle.co.uk).

SUMMARY:ERIC JOHNSON
DESCRIPTION:One of the most outstanding instrumentalists in rock over the past 40 years\, Texas guitarist Eric Johnson was\nalready a legend before he recorded his first album. By the early 1980s\, many celebrated guitarists were singing\nthe praises of this skinny kid from Austin with the mind-melting chops. Comparisons were made to such guitar\nheroes as Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix and when he joined the ‘70s Austin fusion band Electromagnets they were\nbeing hailed as “the Mahavishnu Orchestra of Texas”. With the release of his highly-anticipated 1986 solo debut\nalbum Tones\, the underground guitar legend finally emerged onto the scene fully-formed. It landed him on the\ncover of Guitar Player magazine\, which hailed the album as a “majestic debut”\, and earned him his first Grammy\nnomination for the song “Zap”. With the release of his follow up album\, 1990’s platinum-selling Ah Via Musicom\,\nwhich contained the Grammy Award winning song “Cliffs of Dover”\, Eric Johnson became a bona fide international\nguitar phenomenon.

With the release of his follow up album\, 1990’s platinum-selling Ah Via Musicom\,\nwhich contained the Grammy Award winning song “Cliffs of Dover”\, Eric Johnson became a bona fide international\nguitar phenomenon.\nThe New Age Music Guide once opined that “Eric Johnson plays guitar the way Michelangelo painted ceilings:\nwith a colorful vibrancy that’s more real than life” while Rolling Stone included him in their list of the 100 Greatest\nGuitarists of the 21st century. A dynamic singer as well as an incredibly gifted guitarist\, a pianist and a prolific\nsongwriter\, Eric has been featured on the cover of countless guitar magazines around the world while also racking\nup critical accolades along the way.\nSince 1986 Eric has released seventeen albums\, in addition to albums with other artists such as Eclectic with\njazz guitarist Mike Stern\, and the platinum-selling G3 Live with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Eric has received eight\nGrammy nominations along with numerous other recognitions\, awards and wins in various polls and magazines.\nAmong Johnson’s many accolades are a GRAMMY award in 1992 for “Cliffs of Dover” as Best Rock Instrumental\nPerformance\, lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats\, and his listing among the “100 Greatest\nGuitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician magazine. In his hometown of Austin Texas\, a city full of guitarists\, the\nreaders of the Austin Chronicle voted Eric Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist”\nin their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five\n“Musicians of the Decade”. In February 2024 Eric was honored with induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters\nAssociation Hall of Fame.\n2023 found Eric on his ‘Treasure Tour’\, 67 US dates that were split between a Spring and a Fall tour. In January\nand February 2024 Eric joined the ‘G3 Reunion Tour’ with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai\, and the resulting live\nalbum from the tour was released in January 2025. In August 2024 he made a short run of dates in the north and\nnortheast including the Backroads Blues Festival in New York. In September and October 2024 Eric was a featured\nperformer on the ‘Experience Hendrix 2024 Tour’\, crossing the country from Washington state to Florida\, and\nthen rejoined in March and April 2025 for the ‘Experience Hendrix 2025 Tour’ throughout the east and northeast\nUSA and Canada. September and October 2025 saw the first dates of his ‘Texaphonic’ tour\, from New Orleans to\nNew York\, featuring a set of new blues-rock power trio material. In December 2025 Eric joined the Allman-Betts\nBand for a series of shows as a special guest\, duetting with Devon Allman and Duane Betts. The Texaphonic tour\ncontinues in the USA from April through May 2026 from Florida to California\, including a headlining appearance\nat the Austin Blues Festival. In late June Eric returns to Europe for the first time in over a decade and brings the\nTexaphonic tour to Europe and the UK\, finishing up in Scotland by mid August at ‘Guitar Dreams’ with Mike Stern\nand others before returning to Austin for a special event with Tommy Emmanuel.\nOver the course of more than four decades\, Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey. Along the way\,\nhis creations have cross-pollinated the various musical genres which include rock\, blues\, jazz\, fusion\, soul\, folk\,\nnew-age\, classical\, and even country. Inevitably EJ says it best himself in sharing that regardless of the genre “It\nreally boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day”\, he explains. “The most important thing for me is\nto grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project”.
