SUMMARY:GenFest 2025: Dorothy and Her Very Many Friends – by Jude Taylor
DESCRIPTION:Dorothy and Her Very Many Friends is a synth-pop musical about the true story of the persecution of gay sailors in 1980s America and the futile search for the elusive Dorothy who connected them all. \n\nIn 1980s America\, the Naval Investigative Service are intensively hunting down and discharging gay sailors in the US Navy at an unprecedented rate. But if they truly want to win their war on homosexuality\, they know that they must first defeat the one woman standing in their way: Dorothy. \nWho is Dorothy? What does Dorothy want? How can she possibly be friends with every gay sailor? Can she bring down the entire Navy\, and perhaps the country\, too? Only one man\, with a predictable secret of his own\, can stop her. \nPowered by an 80s synth pop score\, ‘Dorothy and Her Very Many Friends’ is a surreal musical comedy inspired by a lesser-known chapter of queer history. \n\nPart of Genfest 2025\nDiscover the full line-up of performances\, workshops and artist one-to-one’s taking place across GenFest\, Sun 16 – Sat 22 November. SUMMARY:INSPIRAL CARPETS
DESCRIPTION:Following on from their sell out show at the venue in 2023 INSPIRAL CARPETS make a welcome return to ROADMENDER on Sat 22nd November. \nWith fourteen top 40 singles and four top ten albums in almost forty years\, the Inspiral Carpets were built to last. The reformed classic jukebox band continue their musical journey\, selling out tours and underlining their undying popularity whilst creating a platform for a rumoured new album to add to their set\, which is dotted with inventive big songs built around their signature Farfisa and perfect harmonies that always brings the house down. \nTheir hit singles underlined their electric\, eclectic creativity from the punk rock rushes of Joe to the melancholic kitchen sink dramas turned into huge hits like the glorious This Is How It Feels. Then there are the soaring choruses of Saturn 5 or the thrilling pop/noise of I Want You with the late and great Mark E. Smith lending his classic snark sneer to the song.

SUMMARY:From the Collection: Women Artists
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of artworks from NMAG’s collection celebrates the variety of genres\, methods and media used by women artists\, from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. Northampton Museum & Art Gallery Saturday 11 November – Sunday 12 April 2026 Throughout history\, both men and women have created art\, yet only a select few have been remembered within Western art history. Art by men was historically valued more highly than art by women\, reflecting broader beliefs that only men could possess artistic or creative genius. Certain genres and mediums were also considered more prestigious\, while work made in the domestic sphere was dismissed as craft or decoration rather than recognised as fine art. Women were barred from studying nude figures a crucial part of classical art training until the late 1800s. Second-wave feminism in the twentieth century\, and wider social changes in the twenty-first\, have challenged these hierarchies. Today\, women are at the forefront of artistic production\, with artists such as Tracey Emin\, Maggi Hambling\, Rachel Whiteread and Jasleen Kaur recognised as leading voices in contemporary art.

SUMMARY:Josh Widdicombe: Not My Cup Of Tea
DESCRIPTION:Josh Widdicombe is back on tour… not again! By now he has almost certainly mastered the art of stand-up\, either that or he has wasted the last 15 years of his life. Come along and decide for yourself. Expect it to be shorter and with lower production values than Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour\, but funnier and with more references to tea. \nJosh co-hosts the hugely popular podcast Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett\, which has somehow become so popular that they undertook a live arena tour in 2023 and released a book which topped the Sunday Times Bestseller Charts. He’s co-hosted in over 30 series of the multi-award-winning Channel 4 series The Last Leg\, is a team captain on Sky Max’s Rob Beckett’s Smart TV and co-hosts Sky’s Hold The Front Page. And he has an almost complete collection of Panini football sticker books.
