SUMMARY:How the Mind Heals the Body with Dr David Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:Discover the connection between mind + body and the ways to positively bring change to your life through meditation. Followed by Q+A. \nIn this incredible talk\, you will learn all about the mind body connection and fascinating examples of how the placebo effect and belief can shift biology in the brain. Dr David Hamilton will also discuss meditation\, how different types can produce different effects and how positive feelings can impact the immune system and shape brain circuitry! \nThe brain does not always distinguish between real and imaginary\, and people globally have used visualisation strategies to help facilitate their recoveries from injury and illness. Dr Hamilton will teach you the simple processes involved so you can try these techniques and share them with others. \nDoors open at 7pm\, talk starts at 7.30pm – come down early to grab a good seat! \nFollow us on IG @seedtalks \nAfter completing a PhD in organic chemistry\, David worked in R&D in the pharmaceutical industry developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer. Inspired by the placebo effect and how some people’s condition improved because they believed a placebo was a real drug\, he left the industry to write and educate people on how to best harness their mind and emotions to improve their health and wellbeing. He is now a bestselling author of 11 books\, including the Amazon bestseller\, ‘The Five Side Effects of Kindness’. He is a magazine columnist\, a frequent podcast guest\, and has been featured on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch Live. He’s a much sought after speaker in both the public and corporate sectors and has delivered talks for Google\, Bank of England\, HSBC\, 3M\, Costa\, the NHS\, and many more. David is also honorary scientific advisor for the charity 52 Lives\, which helps people in need through acts of kindness.

SUMMARY:From the Collection: Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:For centuries\, landscape was considered an unworthy subject for serious artistic exploration. \nNorthampton Museum & Art Gallery \nUntil Sunday 4 October \nWhen landscape did appear in paintings\, it was often relegated to the backgroundmerely a setting for religious or historical scenes. \nThis perception began to shift in the 17th century with the work of Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain. These pioneering artists crafted idealised rural vistas to illustrate the myths of Ancient Greece and Rome\, imbuing natural elements with metaphorical meaning. Through their romantic and structured visions of the countryside\, landscape painting began to gain recognition as a meaningful art form. \nIt was not until the 19th century\, however\, that landscape truly came into its own. Artists such as J.M.W. Turner and John Constable redefined the genre\, capturing the drama\, emotion\, and grandeur of the natural world. Their work affirmed landscape as a powerful subject in its own rightone that continues to inspire artists to this day. \nDrawing from the museum collections\, this exhibition explores the evolution of landscape painting\, where nature takes centre stage. \n
