SUMMARY:Laforey Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Laforey parade will step off from the Guildhall at 11am\, following two loops of a route along St Giles’ Street\, down Hazelwood Road and up Derngate\, back to St Giles’ Square. At the end of the parade\, cadets will salute local dignitaries\, including Brigadier David Russell-Parsons\, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire and the Mayor of Northampton. \nFormal proceedings begin in the Guildhall Courtyard at 10.15am\, with a march of the guard and parade inspection taking place ahead of a service of remembrance at approximately 10.30am. \nHMS Laforey was adopted by the community of Northampton in 1941 during ‘Warship Week’\, a Royal Navy fundraising initiative which saw towns and cities in Britain raise money towards building naval ships. The town raised more than £750\,000 to fund HMS Laforey and she was assigned to several operations in Mediterranean Sea\, including escorting a relief convoy to Malta as part of Operation Halberd. \nLocal charities\, churches and schools also provided the ship’s crew with gloves\, socks and hats\, while school children wrote them letters. When officers and men from the adopted ship visited the local community\, a celebratory parade was organised in their honour. \nSadly\, the ship sank on the 30th March 1944 after she was hit by torpedoes from a German U-boat\, and only 65 of the 247 men on board survived.

DESCRIPTION:‘Spooktacular’ new augmented reality trail coming to Northampton town centre from Friday 20th October – Friday 3rd November.  \nThe free interactive trail\, via the LoyalFree smartphone app\, tells the story of the forgetful witch Wanda and her beloved cat Wicca. Wicca is missing and to find her\, Wanda must create a potion – but Wanda’s potion cupboard is bare. \nThe digital app invites participants to move around the trail\, checking in at each location to reveal and collect the potion ingredients. As participants follow the trail\, scanning the QR codes at each spooky location\, they will be entered into a prize draw to win a prize. The more QR codes scanned\, the more chance you have of winning. \nThe trail brings the story to life with a mixture of video and augmented reality. Participants can expect to see floating potion ingredients appear magically in front of them when using their smartphone camera. \nTo take part in the trail simply download the LoyalFree app for free and head to the trails section for more information. The parade will continue onto St Giles’ Street and finish on Fish Street at approximately 10.25am. \nFree stage entertainment\, sponsored by the Travis Perkins Group\, will kick off at 10.45am on the All Saints’ Church piazza\, with four-piece Rockabilly band ‘Ignition\,’ who draw their influence from artists such as Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent. They will be followed by vintage vocal trio ‘The Swingettes’ at 11.40am\, performing songs from the 1940’s to modern-day pop. DESCRIPTION:Some of the most endangered animals in the world will be on show in Northampton this Easter as the town centre hosts an amazing trail of sculptures made entirely from toy bricks. \nThe Animal Paradise trail\, presented and built by BRICKLIVE\, has been commissioned by Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) and will feature 15 models of creatures including snow leopards\, tigers\, penguins and orangutans. \nFamilies can get involved in the trail\, which runs from April 1-16 by downloading the LoyalFree app onto their smartphone and scanning QR codes at each host venue to find out more about the model creature on display in the window. All those who complete the trail via the app will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £100 vouchers.
