Top of the shops – more than 1,500 town centre shoppers vote for their favourites

In a survey conducted by Northampton Business Improvement District (BID) shoppers have voted for their favourite town centre stores.

In the survey, carried out by the BID during December 2020 and January 2021, shoppers said their top three independent shops were gift boutique Mooch, emporium Vintage Guru and St Giles Cheese – all based on Guildhall Road in the town centre’s Cultural Quarter.

Primark came out as top of national shops, with 261 of the total 1,535 people casting votes selecting this Grosvenor Shopping centre based store as their number one big brand shopping destination in Northampton town centre.

Mark Mullen, BID Operations Director, said: “In the midst of a third lockdown it is so good to be able to focus on all the positives of our town centre – our shops and businesses.

“We will collectively come out of this. We may come out differently and the town is transitioning, but at times of hardship and challenge the most positive opportunities can come. To see our visitors express so positively their favourite shops is a real tonic.”

1,535 votes were cast in the survey. The top three independents and nationals, as voted for, were:

Independents
• Mooch 128
• Vintage Guru 115
• St Giles Cheese 70

Nationals
• Primark 261
• Lush 53
• Boots 50
