Getting to Northampton Town Centre

Getting here couldn’t be easier – by foot, bicycle, car, bus or taxi. And once you are here, there are so many reasons to stay. Whether you are on business, enjoying a city break, looking for that special purchase, wanting to relax in a street café, enjoying a night out or keen to learn more about the cultural heritage of the town at our museums, Northampton has something for everyone.

Car Parking


The town centre boasts a number of council-run and privately owned multi-storey and ground car parks which are available for public use.

Visit one of the Council’s 21 managed car parks in and around the town centre, offering over 4,900 car parking spaces.

On-Street Parking

In addition, on-street parking is available in multiple locations including; Abington Street, St Giles Street, Bridge Street, Sheep Street and Derngate. For visitors requiring disabled parking, there are dedicated parking bays on Wood Hill, Abington Street and St Giles Street.

Alternatively, there are also several well-positioned private pay and display car parks, including the car park on Hazelwood Road, St Peters Way and Cheyne Walk Club on Cheyne Walk.

 

By Train


Northampton Train Station is a short 15-minute stroll along Marefair and up Gold Street into the Town Centre, a short taxi ride, or there are buses available.

By Bus


North Gate Bus Station is conveniently located on the doorstep of our famous Market Square, and a short 10-minute stroll from the main shopping locations.

Coach services

National Express and other coach services depart from Victoria Street (please check with your operator to confirm) which is located directly beside Upper Mounts car park, NN1 3EL.

 

By Bicycle


There are very many routes suitable for cycling into Northampton Town Centre. There are also several bike racks located throughout the town centre, including the Market Square, Fish Street, Central Library on Abington Street, and the Bus Station on Bradshaw Street. Taxis and black cabs


There are plenty of options when it comes to travelling by taxi in Northampton town centre. The licensed black cab pick-up point is on Mercers Row next to All Saints Church. You can also use taxis from private hire companies Bounds Taxis and Amber Cars. located in the heart of the town centre, as well as Enroute Taxis. For disabled customers, there is a raised kerb pick-up point on Mercers Row near MACE off-license.
