Northampton Museum & Art Gallery’s latest exhibition

Northampton Museum & Art Gallery’s latest exhibition in The Temporary Exhibition Gallery will be in place from Saturday 24 September – Sunday 26 February 2023

The training shoe has been around for over 100 years but in the last 50 years it has developed into a multi[1]billion dollar global industry. In this exhibition we take 0a closer look at the design, technology, cultural influences and environmental impact of the trainer and showcase our own trainer collection, the largest owned by a public institution.

Donate your trainers to a good cause

Help us refresh some souls by donating your old trainers to a good cause.

Good Soles are a Northampton based charity project repurposing and redistributing peoples unwanted trainers. Founded in 2022, they have teamed up with the likes of Northampton Hope Centre to provide upcycled footwear to the homeless and local communities.

The founder, Liam Wood, started the project after being inspired by similar projects, RE:Sole and Soles of Stoke. He wanted to share his passion for trainers and make them accessible to people from all walks of life.

You can drop off your unwanted trainers in the donation bin located in the Trainers: A Global Obsession exhibition or just hand them in at the Museum’s reception desk.
