Contemporary Stitched Textiles The Bassett-Lowke Rooms Sat 8 Mar 2025 - Sun 25 May 2025 An exhibition of Contemporary Stitched Art Textiles We are delighted to be hosting this new exhibition of textiles and mixed media work which has been created by the Visualise textile group. Visualise was formed several years ago, by like-minded artists who enjoy creating diverse work with stitch as the common thread. The exhibition will also feature work by internationally known textile artist and Embroiderers Guild member Nigel Cheney who is the current mentor to Visualise. On display is a diverse array of abstract, realistic and figurative art using a wide variety of media: paper, fabric (new, distressed and recycled) and found objects which are hand and machine stitched, or felted to create art inspired by both the natural world and the built environment. The exhibition includes textile art inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and 78 Derngate itself, with framed and small items for sale. Combining a look round the iconic Charles Rennie Mackintosh House before visiting the exhibition, gardens and shop, followed by partaking of some drink or food in The Dining Room is the perfect way to spend a glorious few hours in Northampton...

This exhibition will look at how the industry has affected the lives of the people of Northamptonshire and beyond, not only through employment but providing hospitals, carnivals, days out and Christmas parties. It will explore the history of the biggest employers in Northamptonshire through personal stories and artefacts.

NFF 2025: International Women’s Day short films Selection 1 (PG)

Delepre Abbey London Rd, Northampton

A selection of short films, from animation to music to drama, that have been shortlisted for this year's festival. Come on your own or bring the family. We'll have a colouring book station at the back of the room for any smaller ones who might not want to sit for the whole programme - adults of course also welcome there! Doors at 11am, films starting at 11.30am with a short interval in the middle and some time at the end to discuss the films. The coffee/drink and cake is any coffee, tea or juice box plus a cake of your choice for the daily selection. All our venues are wheelchair accessible.

A 'Librarian' will book in for short conversations. There will also be opportunities to meet other filmmakers and network. Doors and Women In Film People Library opens 1.30pm with first film screening at 2.30pm. Seven months ago, Saba walked out of her GCSE mocks and didn’t come back. Her friends don’t understand why. Now, on prom night, Saba’s finally made contact, challenging her friends to track her down via a series of cryptic clues. But when the friends are finally reunited, Saba is different. The way she sees the world has changed. And what she’s asking of her friends… is it more than they can give? This new play written by Danusia Samal, directed by Anna Simpson, and performed by the Royal & Derngate Young Company, asks probing questions about the responsibility of the individual in a troubled globalised world, as well as growing up, growing apart, and how far should you go for what you think is right. Levellers Collective: Spring 2025 Acoustic Tour

After two highly acclaimed acoustic tours and albums in recent years, the Levellers Collective bring their new tour to Northampton this March. The Collective live shows, and albums, came about after the Levellers decided to do something a bit different with their extensive back catalogue in 2018. Together with members of fellow Brighton group The Moulettes, they went on to record two albums radically reworking their songs – with producer John Leckie (We The Collective) and Sean Lakeman (Together All The Way). The new acoustic arrangements of those Levellers songs, old and new, can now also be seen and heard on a new Live Album & DVD which was recorded in 2023 at London’s iconic Hackney Empire. The film captures the spirit of the Levellers as never seen before as multiple cameras were positioned onstage for the recording and the result is a truly privileged vantage point.
