THE SMYTHS – ‘MEAT IS MURDER’ at 40 + Hits & More + Guests

Roadmender 1 Lady's Ln, Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

We are very pleased to announce The Smyths are returning to The Roadmender Northampton on Sat 8th November 2025 following their packed out at the venue in 2024. 2025 sees the 40th anniversary of The Smiths a legendary second album Meat is Murder. Arguably the bands most controversial release (the band considered it as a protest album), not only did it do more than anything in pop culture to encourage a generation to become vegetarians, it was the first album to introduce Morrisseys criticism of the Royal Family. Coming a year on from the bands debut, Meat Is Murder showed the band moving its musical might to a muscular new sound (whilst still maintaining its ability to produce heart-breaking beautiful songs). The Smyths presents Meat is Murder a show that will celebrate the album alongside a full collection of classic hits and more from The Smiths.

NC Jazz: O’Higgins & Luft Quartet

Royal and Derngate Theatre 19-21 Guildhall Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN1 1DP

Dave O’Higgins – tenor sax Rob Luft – guitar Jim Watson – organ Billy Pod – drums Saxophonist Dave O’Higgins & guitarist Rob Luft may be more than a generation apart, yet are very much of one musical mind. Now recording their 3rd album together, they have been touring with extensively since 2019. The line-up at Northants tonight is the classic organ combo, drawing on influxes from George Benson, Joe Henderson, Grant Green, Michael Brecker and many more as a springboard for Luft’s lush soundscapes & O’Higgins’ impassioned tenor. Joining them on organ is the virtuosic Jim Watson, and the magically swinging drummer form Greece, Billy Pod.

Miracle On 34th Street

Royal and Derngate Theatre 19-21 Guildhall Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN1 1DP

A true Christmas classic comes alive this holiday season with White Cobra‘s staged radio performance of Miracle On 34th Street.  The story is based on the famous 1947 film, which was first presented as a radio play at the Lux Radio Theatre. A formidable Macy’s store executive, Doris Walker is desperately searching for a new store Santa Claus.  She hires ‘Kris Kringle’ who insists that he is the real Santa Claus and proves immensely popular.  However, when a conflict with the store’s incompetent psychologist erupts, Kris finds himself at Bellevue where, in despair, he deliberately fails a psychological test.  All seems lost until Doris’ friend, Fred Gailey, reassures Kris of his worth and agrees to represent him in the fight to secure his release.  Fred arranges a hearing in which he argues that Kris is sane because he is in fact the real Santa Claus! The White Cobra cast bring alive a lively crew of characters, with radio jingles and sound effects that will delight audiences, young and old.
