Guardian Sonny is twelve. Living with a stammer, he’s finding his way in a world ruled by vicious vowels, confusing consonants, and let’s not forget the biggest beast of them all – small talk. Sonny’s only friend is Captain Chatter, a comic book hero of his own creation, but in the real-world language is power and Sonny must find a way to be heard. When cast in the school production of Hamlet by the Headteacher, he finds the real heroes are closer than he thinks. Packed with playful humour, dazzling visuals and thrilling original music this innovative production includes live creative captioning on stage throughout. Jools Holland

Musical maestro Jools Holland and his famous Rhythm & Blues Orchestra return to Royal & Derngate with special guests Marc Almond and Toby Lee. From his years in the internationally acclaimed duo Soft Cell to the successful solo career that followed, Marc Almond has sold over 30 million records worldwide with his list of hit songs including Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, Touch and, of course, Tainted Love. Marc has been awarded the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award and the Icon Award by Attitude Magazine. His collaborators include the likes of Gene Pitney, Tony Visconti and Burt Bacharach, as well as Jools, who Marc previously toured with in 2018. Audiences will also be treated to the supreme talent of blues guitar prodigy and social media sensation, Toby Lee. Described by Joe Bonamassa as “a future superstar of the blues”, Toby first came to public attention at 10 years old when he posted a get well soon jam for BB King which went viral with 5 million views in a week. Saba’s Swim

Seven months ago, Saba walked out of her GCSE mocks and didn’t come back. Her friends don’t understand why. Now, on prom night, Saba’s finally made contact, challenging her friends to track her down via a series of cryptic clues. But when the friends are finally reunited, Saba is different. The way she sees the world has changed. And what she’s asking of her friends… is it more than they can give? This new play written by Danusia Samal, directed by Anna Simpson, and performed by the Royal & Derngate Young Company, asks probing questions about the responsibility of the individual in a troubled globalised world, as well as growing up, growing apart, and how far should you go for what you think is right. The Young Company will also be performing Saba’s Swim as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival.
