Contemporary Stitched Textiles The Bassett-Lowke Rooms Sat 8 Mar 2025 - Sun 25 May 2025 An exhibition of Contemporary Stitched Art Textiles We are delighted to be hosting this new exhibition of textiles and mixed media work which has been created by the Visualise textile group. Visualise was formed several years ago, by like-minded artists who enjoy creating diverse work with stitch as the common thread. The exhibition will also feature work by internationally known textile artist and Embroiderers Guild member Nigel Cheney who is the current mentor to Visualise. On display is a diverse array of abstract, realistic and figurative art using a wide variety of media: paper, fabric (new, distressed and recycled) and found objects which are hand and machine stitched, or felted to create art inspired by both the natural world and the built environment. The exhibition includes textile art inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and 78 Derngate itself, with framed and small items for sale. Combining a look round the iconic Charles Rennie Mackintosh House before visiting the exhibition, gardens and shop, followed by partaking of some drink or food in The Dining Room is the perfect way to spend a glorious few hours in Northampton...

Following sell-out seasons in London and New York, the brand-new smash hit musical Cruel Intentions is coming to Northampton. Based on the iconic film and inspired by Les Liaisons Dangereuses, it’s packed with ‘90s pop classics including the songs of Britney Spears, Boyz II Men, Christina Aguilera, TLC, R.E.M., Ace of Base, Natalie Imbruglia, The Verve, *NSYNC and many more! Step siblings Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil engage in a cruel bet: Kathryn goads Sebastian into attempting to seduce Annette Hargrove, the headmaster’s virtuous daughter. Weaving a web of secrets and temptation, their crusade wreaks havoc on the students at their exclusive Manhattan high school. It’s not long before the duo become entangled in their own web of deception and unexpected romance, with explosive results… The iconic movie set to the decade’s best songs is an irresistible combination and with over forty 4 and 5 star reviews, it’s the ultimate 90s night out. Northampton's theatrical history is fascinating. Inspired by a love of all things theatre which started when he worked in the Royal Theatre's Gallery Box Office, Alex Wood's subjects range from the earliest pop-up theatres, a play in which real swords were drawn in the stalls, Charlie Chaplin's appearance in the town (probably), stars and strippers at 'the New' and the union of 19th and 20th centuries at the Royal and Derngate. Please contact Northamptonshire Central Library with any queries. email: northampton.libraryplus@westnorthants.gov.uk
