Northampton Market Square opening celebration event Be part of history! Join us for an unforgettable free weekend of fun, family, and food to help us celebrate the grand reopening of the newly revitalised Market Square. Northampton Market Square is back. Bigger, better, and ready to shine! Enjoy a weekend of family fun as we unveil the incredible transformation of this historic space. When and where Saturday 19 October (11am to 8pm) Sunday 20 October (11am to 7:30pm) The event will be held at Northampton Market Square, located in the heart of Northampton town centre. The postcode is NN1 2DN. Accessible toilets will be available on-site. The toilets will also include baby changing facilities. What’s waiting for you? The 2-day event promises to be a vibrant display of community spirit, culture, and live entertainment that residents and visitors won’t want to miss. ABBA tribute act The Magic of ABBA and Britain’s Got Talent 2024 finalists Northants Sings Out will be the headline acts on the main stage. Christmas magic on the Market Square – Elf Takeover and Grinch-y Surprise!

? Saturday, 7 December – Elf Takeover and Grinch-y Surprise!
Get ready for fun-filled activities from 11am to 3pm, as the Market Square is taken over by elves performing stilt-walking, juggling, and face painting. A mischievous Grinch-inspired character will also make a guest appearance, offering fantastic photo opportunities as they stroll around spreading holiday cheer. In addition, WNC is supporting Small Business Saturday and encourages everyone to support small retailers and traders across West Northants and celebrate the contribution small businesses make to our communities.

Step into a winter wonderland between 11am and 3pm, with the Market Square’s North Pole inspired activities. Enjoy taking photos in a free inflatable snow globe and watch festive short films in our outdoor cinema. Visitors can take a relaxing break from Christmas shopping and soak up the festive atmosphere with plenty of seating in the square and a festive bar from V&B plus much more.

We meet in the Spencer Percival foyer of the Guildhall. This is the entrance to the old part of the Guildhall by the public toilets and statue of Spencer Percival. Tour includes the Mayor's Shelid Gallery, the old Town Hall keepers living quarters and the basement cells.

Carnegie Talk – Northampton’s Theatres – a talk by Alex Wood

Northampton's theatrical history is fascinating. Inspired by a love of all things theatre which started when he worked in the Royal Theatre's Gallery Box Office, Alex Wood's subjects range from the earliest pop-up theatres, a play in which real swords were drawn in the stalls, Charlie Chaplin's appearance in the town (probably), stars and strippers at 'the New' and the union of 19th and 20th centuries at the Royal and Derngate.
