• ’49 Miles More’ with shorts ‘Blackpool’ & ‘Toad in the Hole’ (18) with filmmaker Q&A

    Northampton Filmhouse

Comedy and drama your thing? We promise you laughs and plenty of drama with this selection. You'll be able to put your questions to some of the filmmakers after the screening. Ben Norris' debut short, comedy 'Toad in the Hole' premiered at London Film Festival 2025 before heading off on the festival circuit. We also have NFF alumni Stephen Gallacher back with his latest short 'Blackpool'. Shane Meadows says it's "A cracking short that punches harder than the usual drama.... Beautifully shot and acted short that finds massive heart and humour in the guts of Blackpool." These shorts are followed by feature '49 Miles More'. While driving to an annual reunion with their university friends, Max, an unsuccessful insurance salesman, and his fun loving buddy, Doug break down. With 50 miles to go, their only option is to brave the wilderness on foot.

    Northampton Filmhouse

Northants is a county of Rebels and Revolutionaries, Misfits and Mavericks, Creatives and Changemakers - so here's a selection of shorts from our 2026 submissions which we thought fitted under the Misfits or Mavericks themes. • Great Fire Community Spirit Season: Brassed Off

    Northampton Filmhouse

Screening Dates: Sun 22 June 3:00pm Director: Mark Herman Starring: Ewan McGregor, Pete Postlethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald In North Yorkshire, a local colliery band led by Danny (Pete Postlethwaite), prepare for the National Brass Band championships, at a time when the pit’s miners face redundancy. When the daughter of a former band leader named Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald) arrives, her return to the band raises their spirits, alongside a blossoming relationship with one of the band’s younger members (Ewan McGregor). With Gloria leading on the flugelhorn, this pivotal scene showcases the band performing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Combining the yearning, pining quality of brass band music with the film’s dry humour, politics and human stories, Brassed Off reminds us that it’s the music that matters. 85 on the BFI’s Top 100 British films Purchase Tickets
