Christmas Lights Switch On 2025

Saturday 22nd November 12pm - 6pm Market Square, Northampton Enjoy a stocking-stuffed line up of free festive fun as we countdown to Christmas! Northampton's Annual Christmas Lights Switch On returns to the Market Square with a packed schedule of live stage entertainment, community stalls, festive workshops and activities. Join Panto Stars, The Mayor of Northampton and Santa as we celebrate the most magical time of year. More info coming soon...! The switch on will illuminate the large spruce trees on the Market Square, All Saints' Piazza, Guildhall Square, Abington Square and at Becket's Park, as well as the festive installations throughout the town. The town council has invested in new Christmas lighting schemes for the town centre locations and along the Wellingborough Road. We hope residents and visitors enjoy the festive atmosphere as we will continue to improve and evolve the lighting over the next couple of years. Santa's Grotto, delivered by Northampton BID and supported by Northampton Town Council, opens in the Grosvenor Centre on Saturday 22nd November and will welcome families each weekend throughout December. Follow the trail around the town centre to find all the hidden pumpkins – then return to the Pumpkin Patch to pick a pumpkin from the patch to take home and carve!   How it works Collect your trail map and pumpkin bag to start your adventure. Your map will show you where to go and what to look for. Follow the trail Look for the Pumpkin Patch stickers in shop windows – each one marks a trail stop! At every stop, spot a hidden pumpkin and collect a letter! Return to the Patch Once you’ve found them all, head back to the Pumpkin Patch to collect your pumpkin, take a photo and enjoy the autumn atmosphere.   Prize Draw ! Diwali – Celebrating 25 years of Northampton’s Winter Festival of Lights

Saturday 18th October 10am - 8pm Northampton Town Centre - Market Square This years is the 25th Anniversary of The Diwali Winter Festival of Lights in Northampton, organised by the Indian Hindu Welfare Organisation Northampton, and supported by Northampton Town Council, West Northamptonshire Council, Northampton Town Centre BID, Inspiration Arts, Rost Productions Ltd, Inspiration FM, University of Northampton, Northampton College and Grosvenor Shopping Centre. The event is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Join the celebrations with cultural food and drink, community stalls, live stage entertainment, henna painting, arts and crafts, saree dressing and the spectacular Diwali lantern procession and magical parade, featuring breathtaking giant puppets including Harminder the elephant. Stalls open at 10am | Entertainment from 12pm | Parade starts at 6pm The festival will start at 10am on the Market Square, live stage entertainment from 12pm to 8pm; at 6pm the enchanting parade will make its way through the town centre and finish at the Market Square for further exciting anniversary celebrations. 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of Northampton – Finale Event

The 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of Northampton will be marked with a special event in Market Square to round off a week-long series of free activities across the town.The finale of a busy events programme will be held on Saturday, 20 September, with an activity day in Market Square from 11am to 7.30pm, to be followed by a service at All Saints’ Church at 7.30pm featuring guests including Rev Richard Coles.A big screen will show a specially commissioned animation by Northampton Film Festival and The Creative Place. The film is the result of a project involving hundreds of local people answering the question, if Northampton burnt down again tomorrow, what would people save, what would people rebuild first and what would make it feel like our Northampton again?Local children have contributed drawings to the animation, local animators have shared their skills and market-goers have shared their thoughts through workshops, vox pops and on the ideas wall at The Creative Place. The resulting film will premiere at 1.30pm.Throughout the day there will be an extended version of The Creative Place’s Makers Market featuring artisan producers and creatives, a bar by V&B, a performance from the Bach choir and displays...
