Celebrate Armed Forces Day at Northampton Market Square this Saturday

Armed Forces Day will be celebrated at Northampton's Market Square this Saturday, 28th June between 10am and 2pm, with musical entertainment, talks, information stands and vehicle displays. The free event, organised by Northampton Town Council, opens with welcome speeches from the Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant, followed by a packed stage lineup hosted by NLive Radio until 2pm. Army Veteran and Disability Content Creator Nick Wilson, also known as 'The Disabled Adventurer', will talk about the personal experiences and adversities he has overcome throughout his life and career, while Northamptonshire Yeomanry and Army Benevolent Fund representative David Parish will give a talk on the history of the Northamptonshire Regiment and the work of the Fund. The Royal British Legion will also take to the stage to highlight the importance of the annual poppy appeal. Hear live music from vintage vocal trio 'The Starlight Sisters' singing songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s, followed by local Rock n' Roll covers band Similar Jones. The winners of a children’s safety competition are set to be revealed at a community event offering fun and advice for the whole family, with star appearances from PAW Patrol’s Marshall. On Saturday, June 21, Northampton’s Market Square will be filled with members of the emergency services, life-saving charities, health experts, sports teams and more, all offering information and advice to help people of all ages have a safe and fun summer. As well as stalls where you can buy local creative products, like jewellery and ceramics, each market will also feature a live performance and hands-on activities for the public. Spotlight on mental health support at Northampton Market Square

Residents are invited to Northampton’s Market Square on Saturday 17 May, from 10am to 2pm, for a special event to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, bringing together a wide range of local charities and organisations. The event aims to raise awareness of the mental health and wellbeing services available to people of all ages across the area and is part of a series of actions led by the Northampton Town Centre Task Group to support workers, businesses, and the wider community. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with teams from organisations such as Action for Happiness, The Lowdown, Samaritans, Healthwatch, Futures Housing, Orbit, and many more. Public Health colleagues will also be promoting upcoming mental health and suicide prevention training sessions specifically aimed at local businesses. One Angel Square and Northampton Market Square will be illuminated as part of the national Beacon Lighting Ceremony. Cllr Daniel Lister, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Culture, and Leisure, said: "VE Day remains a powerful reminder of the resilience, courage, and unity shown by communities during one of the most challenging times in history. It is important that we continue to honour and remember the sacrifices made for the peace we enjoy today.   “Through these events, we hope people of all generations can come together to celebrate and reflect on this momentous occasion. I encourage everyone to take part, whether by attending a beacon lighting, visiting one of our themed library or museum activities, or supporting local events in our communities."
