CLIMBING THE STRATIGRAPHICAL COLUMN – THE PALAEOGENE AND NEOGENE. Sue Baker reaches the final part of her journey ascending the geological column reaching our more recent geological past. After the Cretaceous – Palaeogene extinction – mammals diversified following the extinction of terrestrial dinosaurs and the Atlantic Ocean continued to spread with Africa and India moving north resulting in the Alpine and Himalayan mountain ranges.
