THE NNHS GLASS SLIDES. We will continue our fascinating tour through the glass slides taken by society members in the first quarter of the last century.
MICROMETEORITES by Ian Wilson. The earth is being constantly bombarded by cosmic dust. We will learn about how much there is, how big they are and how to find them before attempting to discover micrometeorites in dust collected from rooftops, streets and the gutters of the Humfrey rooms!
IMPROMPTU PHOTOGRAPHIC NIGHTS. Come along with your camera gear. Subject to be agreed on the night and may be Post Processing (Photoshop), Still Life, Studio Flash, AV, or anything else you would like to cover. Guests are very welcome to join us where we will gladly assist with photographic queries.
THE KETTERING DISTRICT NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY WALLIS COLLECTION IMAGES. A selection of scanned large format glass monochrome images of varied locations and subjects taken around the start of the last century.
EXPLORING THE SOCIETY'S COLLECTIONS. The society has important collections including butterflies, shells, eggs, sands, microscope slides, rocks, minerals and Northamptonshire fossils. This is a great opportunity to look at our extensive collections, to draw, study them or just appreciate their beauty. Also, if you wish to assist us conserving or documenting you would be welcome.
THE STEREO MICROSCOPE WITH EVERYDAY OBJECTS by Mike Gibson. It can be amazing to see everyday objects magnified by just ten or twenty times. Bring along anything you have which might be interesting including flowers, insects from the windowsill, printed materials, cloth, dust etc. We will try to bring along some mystery objects to test your skills of observation!
SUMMER IMAGES We will view the images we took at the summer practical nights, plus any images taken during the summer break that members wish to show. We will also introduce this year’s Northamptonshire photo topic.
GRASSES, SEDGES AND RUSHES by Seán Karley. Seán will cover the differences between these families and other plants in the way they are pollenated, their structure and how to identify them. Followed by a pictorial guide to common species.
TELESCOPIC TOPICS What have you been doing during the summer? Updating equipment or trying new software? This is your chance to show the section your observations, equipment you are using or anything else that has interested you. Your participation is encouraged but please let the secretary know beforehand.
UNDERWOOD CUP A competition for members to submit pictorial images on any subject. Up to three projected images allowed per member per round. Round 1 of 3
