BUTTERFLIES AND MOTHS by Ian Wilson and Mike Gibson. Butterfly and Moth wing scales are beautiful subjects for mounting. We will briefly look at the anatomy of butterflies and moths under the microscope before mounting butterfly and moth wing scales using specimens from old rescued collections.

PEOPLE PLACES AND FACES by Lilliana Alani. A medley of different styles of photography that Lilliana has developed over the years. This presentation will take you around 5 continents in one evening. It is a medley of over 180 images, many of them award winning. It is a combination of different subjects, styles and techniques. From people in their natural environment, still life, decisive moments and many more. Presented in person in the rooms.

BEEBY THOMPSON - NORTHAMPTON’S GREATEST SCIENTIST? Beeby Thompson was a founder member of the Natural History Society, Curator of Geology at Northampton Museum and the first Principal of the College of Science and the Arts in Abington Square. How did this tailor’s son from Creaton end up prospecting for oil in Angola, Brazil, Peru and Jamaica? Bob Purser will recount Beeby Thompson's journey from the Roade cutting to Joe’s River Clay in Barbados.

CRITIQUING NIGHT Members should bring in up to 2 digital images or prints on the night. The images can be any they would like critiqued, or maybe ones they are thinking of entering into a future competition. Each person in turn will be asked to critique an image and to discuss how it may be improved. This isn’t a competition but an opportunity to practice critiquing and to learn from our own and each other's images. 1 of 4 critique evenings.

T CORONA BOREALIS by Gary Poyner, a famous variable star observer. This interesting variable star last flared up in 1946. Nicknamed the Blaze Star, it is a binary star and a recurrent nova 3,000 light-years away. It was first discovered in outburst in 1866. The science and the story by our well known speaker Gary Poyner. Guests and visitors are very welcome.
