‘Dogger, Fisher, German Bight’: Charlie Connelly brings the shipping forecast vividly to life in this hilarious and moving celebration of an iconic cultural institution. Charlie explores the broadcast’s remarkable history, unlocks its beguiling mysteries and tells riproaring stories of his own adventures among the sea areas, ensuring the forecast will never sound the same again. How did a weather forecast for ships capture the hearts of a nation, from salty old sea dog to insomniac landlubber? How is it possible for ‘rain later’ to be ‘good’? And where the hell is North Utsire? Delving into the history of the forecast and the extraordinary people who made it, Charlie explains what those curious phrases really mean, celebrates its wide cultural impact, shares riproaring adventures from his own extraordinary journey through the 31 sea areas – the times he was accused by the media of trying to annex Rockall from the British government and sang sea shanties with Tom Hardy in a Manx hotel bar while Scary Spice pulled the pints – and presents his case for the shipping forecast being our finest achievement. THE SMYTHS – ‘MEAT IS MURDER’ at 40 + Hits & More + Guests

Roadmender 1 Lady's Ln, Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

We are very pleased to announce The Smyths are returning to The Roadmender Northampton on Sat 8th November 2025 following their packed out at the venue in 2024. 2025 sees the 40th anniversary of The Smiths a legendary second album Meat is Murder. Arguably the bands most controversial release (the band considered it as a protest album), not only did it do more than anything in pop culture to encourage a generation to become vegetarians, it was the first album to introduce Morrisseys criticism of the Royal Family. Coming a year on from the bands debut, Meat Is Murder showed the band moving its musical might to a muscular new sound (whilst still maintaining its ability to produce heart-breaking beautiful songs). The Smyths presents Meat is Murder a show that will celebrate the album alongside a full collection of classic hits and more from The Smiths.
