David Sinclair Four: King Billy Music Bar

The King Billy Music Bar 2 Commercial Street, Northampton, United Kingdom

DS4 bring their high-end rock & roll show to The King Billy Music Bar — one of Northampton’s favourite grassroots venues. Expect blues guitar & harmonica swagger with a London-delta twist. Come and feel the noise... Bandleader, songwriter, music journalist and raconteur-behind-the-velvet-rope, David Sinclair unveils the latest DS4 album, Sweet Georgina. As a writer and columnist for The Times of London, Rolling Stone and Billboard, David has seen the rock & roll years unfold at close quarters and lived to tell the tale. Now on his fifth album as a recording artist in his own right, he brings a storyteller’s craft to bear on the witty, bluesy, alt-rock narratives of Sweet Georgina. The title track is an ode to the band’s muse and the patron saint of songwriters everywhere: “She’s a woman of grace, a creature of youth/A master of rhyme, she told me the truth.” Joining David in the DS4 is master guitarist and co-songwriter, Geoff Peel, together with rhythm section of Derek White (bass) and Jack Sinclair (drums) and special guests on harmonica and vocals. The DS4 have played festivals across the UK including Cornbury and the North Wales Blues & Soul Festival, where they headlined the Friday...

From the Collection: Landscapes

Northampton Museum And Art Gallery 4-6 Guildhall Rd,, Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

For centuries, landscape was considered an unworthy subject for serious artistic exploration. Northampton Museum & Art Gallery Until Sunday 4 October When landscape did appear in paintings, it was often relegated to the background—merely a setting for religious or historical scenes. This perception began to shift in the 17th century with the work of Nicolas Poussin and Claude Lorrain. These pioneering artists crafted idealised rural vistas to illustrate the myths of Ancient Greece and Rome, imbuing natural elements with metaphorical meaning. Through their romantic and structured visions of the countryside, landscape painting began to gain recognition as a meaningful art form. It was not until the 19th century, however, that landscape truly came into its own. Artists such as J.M.W. Turner and John Constable redefined the genre, capturing the drama, emotion, and grandeur of the natural world. Their work affirmed landscape as a powerful subject in its own right—one that continues to inspire artists to this day. Drawing from the museum collections, this exhibition explores the evolution of landscape painting, where nature takes centre stage.
