Contemporary Stitched Textiles The Bassett-Lowke Rooms Sat 8 Mar 2025 - Sun 25 May 2025 An exhibition of Contemporary Stitched Art Textiles We are delighted to be hosting this new exhibition of textiles and mixed media work which has been created by the Visualise textile group. Visualise was formed several years ago, by like-minded artists who enjoy creating diverse work with stitch as the common thread. The exhibition will also feature work by internationally known textile artist and Embroiderers Guild member Nigel Cheney who is the current mentor to Visualise. On display is a diverse array of abstract, realistic and figurative art using a wide variety of media: paper, fabric (new, distressed and recycled) and found objects which are hand and machine stitched, or felted to create art inspired by both the natural world and the built environment. The exhibition includes textile art inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and 78 Derngate itself, with framed and small items for sale. Combining a look round the iconic Charles Rennie Mackintosh House before visiting the exhibition, gardens and shop, followed by partaking of some drink or food in The Dining Room is the perfect way to spend a glorious few hours in Northampton...

This exhibition addresses this fascinating topic and journeys through the demise of the dinosaurs and marine reptiles, death of the ice age mammoths and the impact of humans on the dodo.

St George's Day will be celebrated at Northampton Market Square on Saturday, 26th April with Northampton Town Council providing a range of free activities and entertainment throughout the day for all the family! Crafty kids can create their own St George-themed make and take crafts and enjoy a St George's Day tale with a twist! Kids entertainers will be offering free face painting and balloon modelling. Adults can also try their hand at crafts in the Yarn Bombing workshop. Juggling Jim will run his Silly Knight School, where kids can try challenges to become a knight of the castle, followed by Circus Workshops, teaching juggling and balancing skills.
