3rd Year BA Acting students at the University of Northampton present Nell Gwynn by Jessica Swale. Jessica Swale’s comedy is set in the 1660s, after the ascension to the throne of Charles II. It begins in the playhouse in Drury Lane, London, where Nell Gwynn is an ‘orange hawker’ whose quick wit and remarkable beauty soon get her noticed. When she takes to the stage as an actress, she causes merry havoc in a traditionally male world, and soon comes to the attention of the King. But can her charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of the Court?

UON BA Acting: The Sweet Science of Bruising
3rd Year BA Acting students at the University of Northampton present The Sweet Science Of Bruising by Joy Wilkinson. London, 1869. Four very different Victorian women are drawn into the dark underground world of female boxing by the eccentric Professor Sharp. Controlled by men and constrained by corsets, each finds an unexpected freedom in the boxing ring. As their lives begin to intertwine, their journey takes us through grand drawing rooms, bustling theatres and rowdy Southwark pubs, where the women fight inequality as well as each other.
JAH WOBBLE & THE INVADERS OF THE HEART PLAY METAL BOX

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: Verdi’s Requiem
Conductor Adrian Partington Soprano Hye-Yoon Lee Mezzo Soprano Annabella Vesella-Ellis Tenor Joseph Buckmaster Baritone Ossian Huskinson Northampton Bach Choir and Daventry Choral Society Royal Philharmonic Orchestra The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra finish their 2023/24 season in Northampton with the Northampton Bach Choir and Daventry Choral Society in a performance of Verdi’s dramatic choral masterpiece. Dies irae, dies illa… Trumpets blast, drums thunder and a mighty chorus cries out in terror. A Requiem is a service for the dead, but there was never any chance that an old fighter like Giuseppe Verdi would go quietly into the night. Sure enough, his huge Requiem mass has been called the grandest opera he never wrote: thrillingly dramatic, blazing with emotion and conceived on an absolutely gigantic scale. Conducted by Adrian Partington, this performance is a chance to hear this fantastic piece that you cannot miss!
