PARAMECIUM AND OTHER CILIATES by Mike Gibson. We hope to have a Paramecium culture to look and study, as well as some other members of this huge and varied group of protists in hay infusions and pond samples. These are a great group to try out various contrast techniques such as phase contrast, dark field etc.

CRITIQUING NIGHT. Members should bring in up to 2 digital images or prints onthe night.   The images can be any they would likecritiqued, or maybe ones they are thinking of entering into a future competition. Each person in turn will be asked to critique an image and to discuss how it maybe improved.  This isn’t a competitionbut an opportunity to practice critiquing and to learn from our own and eachother's images. This invitation-only event will be screening a selection of short films to secondary school and college age young people. We're showing two films from the NFF 2025 shortlist - plus a selection of films chosen by our Youth Disability Advisory Board made by or starring people with disabilities provided by Oska Bright Film Festival, the world’s leading festival for films made by or featuring people with learning disabilities or autism. Sarah Leigh will take part in a Q&A after the screening of her film 'One For The Road'. All our venues are wheelchair accessible.

Visualise was formed several years ago, by like-minded artists who enjoy creating diverse work with stitch as the common thread. The exhibition will also feature work by internationally known textile artist and Embroiderers Guild member Nigel Cheney who is the current mentor to Visualise. On display is a diverse array of abstract, realistic and figurative art using a wide variety of media: paper, fabric (new, distressed and recycled) and found objects which are hand and machine stitched, or felted to create art inspired by both the natural world and the built environment. The exhibition includes textile art inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and 78 Derngate itself, with framed and small items for sale. Combining a look round the iconic Charles Rennie Mackintosh House before visiting the exhibition, gardens and shop, followed by partaking of some drink or food in The Dining Room is the perfect way to spend a glorious few hours in Northampton...

Northampton Museum & Art Gallery Saturday 28 September 2024 - Sunday 15 March 2025 The shoemaking industry has been part of Northamptonshire's history for hundreds of years. This exhibition will look at how the industry has affected the lives of the people of Northamptonshire and beyond, not only through employment but providing hospitals, carnivals, days out and Christmas parties. It will explore the history of the biggest employers in Northamptonshire through personal stories and artefacts.

A selection of short films from documentary to drama, from Northampton and across the country, about people discovering themselves, celebrating their talents and finding their tribe. As well as the films, there will be a chance to discuss the films afterwards. The certificate of this screening is 12A. Doors open at 2pm. Delapre's cafe will be open throughout for refreshments. For the Coffee + Cake ticket, you can swap the coffee for tea or various soft drinks. A variety of cakes will be available on the day. All our venues are wheelchair accessible.

After two highly acclaimed acoustic tours and albums in recent years, the Levellers Collective bring their new tour to Northampton this March. The Collective live shows, and albums, came about after the Levellers decided to do something a bit different with their extensive back catalogue in 2018. Together with members of fellow Brighton group The Moulettes, they went on to record two albums radically reworking their songs – with producer John Leckie (We The Collective) and Sean Lakeman (Together All The Way). The new acoustic arrangements of those Levellers songs, old and new, can now also be seen and heard on a new Live Album & DVD which was recorded in 2023 at London’s iconic Hackney Empire. The film captures the spirit of the Levellers as never seen before as multiple cameras were positioned onstage for the recording and the result is a truly privileged vantage point.
