St George’s Day Celebrations and Notable Northamptonians Trail

Saturday 26th April | 11am - 2.30pm Northampton Market Square • 11am - 2.30pm: Meet St George and his giant friendly Dragon! Creative Crafts Balloon Modelling Face Painting • TIMES TBC: Juggling Jim's Knight School • TIMES TBC: Morris Dancers • TIMES TBC: Storytelling • TIMES TBC: Juggling Jim's Circus Workshop • Notable Northamptonians Trail round the town centre The trail will be in situ for two weeks around the St George's Day celebrations - plenty of time to get discovering! St George's Day will be celebrated at Northampton Market Square on Saturday, 26th April with Northampton Town Council providing a range of free activities and entertainment throughout the day for all the family! Crafty kids can create their own St George-themed make and take crafts and enjoy a St George's Day tale with a twist! Kids entertainers will be offering free face painting and balloon modelling. Adults can also try their hand at crafts in the Yarn Bombing workshop. Juggling Jim will run his Silly Knight School, where kids can try challenges to become a knight of the castle, followed by Circus Workshops, teaching juggling and balancing skills. Morris Dancers will entertain crowds with centuries-old, routines, plus traditional brass band performances and...

Oak Apple Day

Northampton Town Centre

An ancient ceremony of thanksgiving at All Saints’ Church will commemorate Oak Apple Day and kickstart the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of Northampton. The annual civic ceremony, organised by Northampton Town Council and the Lord Lieutenancy, remembers the generosity of King Charles II, who donated over 1,000 tonnes of timber to reconstruct All Saints’ Church and halved the town’s taxes for seven years following the blaze in 1675. The event on Thursday, May 29 will see a detachment from the Honourable Artillery Company of Pikemen & Musketeers be accompanied by the ‘A’ Company LNR ACF Corps of Drums, with a parade and musket firing taking place on the piazza of All Saints’ Church around 12pm. The civic procession will then enter All Saints’ Church for a thanksgiving service led by Father Oliver Coss. The High Sheriff of Northamptonshire will then invite the Mayor to place an oak leaf wreath on the statue of Charles II, standing high on the church’s portico. A prayer of thanksgiving is then read by the Lord-Lieutenant, along with the playing of the National Anthem, a toast to the Mayor and a final blessing. Stu Vincent Photography
