THE FLORA AND FAUNA OF STAINES MOOR by Robert Goble. The moor has been common land since 1065 and has remained unploughed and free of pesticides and fertiliser for 1000 years. It has been a SSSI since 1965. Robert, a member of the Staines Moor Preservation Society, is a frequent visitor to this site and will show us his images of the surprising amount of wildlife and wild flowers found on this site which is close to Heathrow, Staines & the M25. EXPLORING THE SOCIETY'S COLLECTIONS. The society has important collections including butterflies, shells, eggs, sands, microscope slides, rocks, minerals and Northamptonshire fossils. This is a great opportunity to look at our extensive collections, to draw, study them or just appreciate their beauty. Also, if you wish to assist us conserving or documenting you would be welcome.

TELESCOPIC TOPICS A meeting comprising member contributions on various astronomy themes. Your chance to show the section observations you have made, equipment you are using or anything else that has interested you enough to share it with the section. If you have a special interest and would like to participate as a speaker please let the secretary know beforehand. Guests are very welcome.

HISTORIC LANDSCAPE AND RURAL IMAGES. The society has in its collections a number of photographic albums dating back from the creation of the society in 1876. This is a selection of those images, featuring landscapes, vistas and buildings from around England.

MONOPOD COMPETITION The last meeting of our programme is our annual set subject competition depicting religious subjects from any faith. A competition held in honour of Mrs Humfrey’s interest in church photography. Up to three entries per person, any mix of prints or projected images. Trophy Presentations. The evening concludes with the presentation of the annual trophies.

THE ICE AGE IN THE ENGLISH MIDLANDS. Don Munn will pick up on recent developments in the understanding of the effect of the Quaternary glaciation ice age in the Midlands.

BOTANY - PART 3 - SEED GERMINATION by Mike Asquith. Spring is the time of germinating seeds, so what happens when a seed germinates? Mike will bring some slides of germinating seeds and some examples for you to examine under the microscope.
