NC Jazz: Karen Sharp Trio

Multi-award-winning saxophonist has joined forces with two of the UK’s premier jazz artists, Simon Thorpe and Colin Oxley together with special guest Darren Beckett. Their music reflects a shared love of creative interplay and improvisation together with a deep respect for the jazz tradition demonstrated with exquisite tunes by the likes of Steve Swallow, Bill Evans, Jobim, Jim Hall and Simon Thorpe. In 2018 Karen, Simon and Colin recorded their first album together, Another Place. They have been performing regularly ever since, both as a trio and with augmented ensembles always keen to explore new and exciting routes through jazz material from the past and present. Yes! Bobby Beckles is back on tour.  Smashing the life out of the M25, M1, M5 and any other road that’s in my way. From Bromley to Brisbane, my new show Giraffe is going worldwide. Expectations on me: put on 3 stone from takeaways and post-show drinking. Expectations of you: leave the gig happier than when you arrived. My wife thinks it’s going to be tough for me to be away from the family and don’t get me wrong, I do love my children/podcast content providers… but I also enjoy a lie-in and a hotel buffet breakfast. Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox

Fresh from playing their 1,000th show, retro musical collective Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) has announced the UK leg of their 2025, Magic & Moonlight World Tour. The group will headline the famed Royal Albert Hall in London before visiting Northampton in May. “If we’ve learned anything from ten years of touring the world, it’s that great music has the ability to transcend time and space in a way that is best described as ‘magic,” says Postmodern Jukebox creator and show director, Scott Bradlee. Concertgoers can expect to enter a parallel musical universe where modern-day earworms and iconic pop hits alike are reimagined in classic genres like 1920s jazz, Swing, Doo-wop and Motown, and brought to life by a cast of some of the world’s best singers, dancers, and instrumentalists. Think The Great Gatsby meets Sinatra at the Sands meets Back To The Future. Richard Herring: Can I Have My Ball Back?

In 2021 Richard Herring went to his GP to find out why his right ball seemed to be growing bigger. It turned out that he had testicular cancer and one month later he was lying in hospital waiting to have his murderous gonad removed. Would he survive? (No spoilers!). For a comedian who had done a whole show on male genitalia (Talking Cock) and written a book about toxic masculinity (The Problem With Men) this felt like some cruel trick of fate. With extra dates added in 2025 for his much-anticipated return to stand-up after six years, Richard talks bollocks and answers the question on everyone’s lips: Is a severed gonad in a jar a fitting prize to bring in for Taskmaster?

Ahir Shah: Ends

Please note the date of this performance has been moved from Fri 14 March Ahir Shah presents his award-winning stand-up show Ends. The show spans six decades, three generations, and two continents, synthesising past and present in search of hope for the future. It’s funnier than it sounds, honestly. Loads of absolutely cracking gags. Ends was first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. Starting as a work-in-progress show, it became the word-of-mouth hit of the festival, culminating in Shah winning the 2023 Sky Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show. Since then, Ends enjoyed 5 sold-out weeks at London’s Soho Theatre, and has been performed at both the prestigious Royal Court Theatre and the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in Los Angeles. He’s now finally able to take it on tour, and he’s very much looking forward to it. You should come, it’ll be good.
